Advanced Life Support
Level 2

ALS1 is a one-day, internationally accredited course designed to equip clinicians with the core skills and knowledge needed to recognise, assess, and manage clinical emergencies, including the initial resuscitation of cardiac arrest.

Course Content

Every ALS1 course combines focused theory, hands-on skills training, and immersive cardiac arrest scenarios to prepare clinicians to recognise, assess, and manage time-critical emergencies with confidence.
What You Will Learn:
  • Recognition, assessment, and management of the deteriorating patient using a structured ABCDE approach
  • Airway management skills
  • Basic Life Support
  • Defibrillation skills (manual and/or AED modes)
  • Cardiac arrest management using the ARC ALS Algorithm
  • Effective teamwork and communication during cardiac arrest scenarios

How You Will Learn:
Delivered through a blend of concise lectures, practical workshops, and simulated cardiac arrest scenarios, ALS1 emphasises team-based care, clinical decision-making, and performance under pressure, reflecting the realities of real-world emergencies.

Eligibility

This course is suitable for clinicians working across a broad range of clinical environments.
All registered medical practitioners, nurses, paramedics and many advanced practice allied health are encouraged to apply.

Our courses can be tailored towards clinicians working in most clinical areas, with consideration given your local clinical equipment and scope of practice, including:
  • Acute & Ward-based Clinical Areas
  • General Practice
  • Pre-Hospital / First Responders
  • Community Health Facilities
  • Commercial /Industrial Health Facilities

Prerequisites

There are no formal prerequisites for this course.

However, candidates are expected to:
  • be registered with AHPRA
  • have some experience with basic life support (including CPR)
  • complete the provided pre-course learning prior to attendance


Once enrolled and paid, we will send your copy of the Australian Resuscitation Council’s (ARC) Advanced Life Support Level 1 course manual for self-guided pre-reading.

Assessment

Assessment is formative and designed to support learning, not to catch candidates out.

Continuous assessment of candidates occurs throughout all ALS1 courses, including using clinical simulations that allow candidates to demonstrate the core competencies that have been taught on the course. 

An ALS1 provider card will be issued by the Australian Resuscitation Council after successful completion of the course. This card is valid for four (4) years and is recognised Australia-wide and throughout the UK and Europe. 

CPD Points

All ARC ALS courses are eligible for CPD points from the following colleges:


However, as the systems vary between professional colleges, state and individual organisations, candidates should check with their respective professional bodies for the latest requirements.

Faculty

The Australian Resuscitation Council (ARC) credentials all instructors authorised to deliver ARC Advanced Life Support programs.

All faculty delivering ALS courses have completed ARC-approved training and development and are registered as ARC Instructors in accordance with course regulations. ARC Instructors follow a prescribed development pathway to ensure the maintenance of high educational and clinical standards.

In addition, faculty come from a broad range of clinical specialties and bring extensive real-world experience in managing complex medical emergencies and resuscitation scenarios, supported by strong educational expertise.

Dress

Dress comfortably.
You will be required to perform CPR and participate in hands-on clinical simulation.
Smart casual clothing with closed in footwear preferred.

  • Tea, Coffee & Water available
